Last night was the feel good fest everyone needed and deserves. Sure it was a bunch of rah rah-ing, the musical choices were at times, questionable, and it went on waaaaaaaay too long, but don’t all the best parties?
It was high energy. It was robust. It was highly, if not exhaustingly produced. It had some cache even! Like NBA and Team USA Coach Steve Kerr, fresh off of winning gold at the Olympics in Paris with his own slam dunk! After analyzing Coach Walz’s basketball IQ, he used Steph Curry’s winning moment in Paris and said:
"we can tell Donald Trump 'night, night.”
Brilliant.
At one point Beyonce’s “Freedom” starts to play and a promo video unfolds, using the powerful anthem as it’s soundtrack.

It was a cool video. Great song! Ok, cool. But then…Kamala strides, not walks, but STRIDES out while Beyonce is belting it out and the audience LOST IT. Like people were at Beatles level hype. It was NOT on the schedule ( I looked and thought I screwed up actually lol) People were chanting “WE WIN” and damn if it didn’t feel like we could. That’s magic. I know, it’s not policy, and she wore a taupe suit and more, but with Trump’s Handmaid’s Tale looming and the constant gaslighting and endless vomit-inducing negativity coming from the party formerly known as Republican, it was a breath of fresh AMERICAN air. All of it. Even AOC knocked it out of the park. We were, nor are we fans of hers, but she was amazing. Graphic from 2020 for reference below:
But it felt GOOD. Like, positive and dare I say HOPEFUL. *Could not resist a cheesy Obama tie in and counting down until he takes the stage tonight! Michelle too.
Speaking of feel good fervor, Hillary Clinton was also greeted like a rock band you really, really love, but maybe haven’t spun in a while and you ask yourself why and play their albums on repeat for the next week or so. As she should. She’s flawed. Hello, yes. But she is also a brilliant mind, and an incredible force, who had she possessed the one vital thing required at the time (a penis), would have been our President. She gave a killer speech, which given her less than stellar likability quotient is a fabulous result. They LOVED HER. Twitter was rife with mad love for Secretary Clinton afterwards. Here’s my “I wish I thought of it at the time” comment that I didn’t get to use last night:
“So much LOVE for Hillary Clinton tonight! Hindsight is 20/20, or in her case, I guess it’s 20/16”

Thanks for helping us save democracy one Substack (and episode) at a time. It will be hard to watch Adam, and even harder to know he isn’t here fighting like hell with us, but now, more than ever we need to keep pushing, and keeping our eyes on the goal.
