In case you missed the party of the year last night, things got ELECTRIC.
Yes. At the DNC. Here’s a taste:
Yeah. It was crazy. And exactly what everyone needed. To feel good about being American! To celebrate our grand experiment! To remember and honor what makes America so damn great! We have free and open elections! Every citizen has a VOICE! Each state in the Union has a SAY! This is absolutely something to get up and dance about. And they sure did. For the entire roll call. It was magic. The Dems are not exactly known for their successful messaging. They are kind of all over the place and it’s really frustrating to watch them fumble the ball time and time again frankly, especially when we are facing Captain Cheetoh McDictator. Time and time again, Adam and I would slam our proverbial heads and curse the ineptitude of the party in turn, their minions pushing the frazzled agenda while drunk on stale kool-aid.
They NAILED it last night and man, it was special, but a DJ alone can’t save even the worst party, so thankfully they also delivered 3 of the most powerful convention speeches in American history. All in a row.
First Gentleman, *oops I mean, Second Gentleman, Doug Emhoff delivered a speech about his wife that not only sounded like a Hollywood pitch meeting for the most delightful rom-com ever, but he humanized her in a a way that hasn’t happened yet. Through his obvious and endearing love for her, he made US want to love her. And he was pretty hard to resist. His admiration for her as a woman, step mom, attorney, and of course, VP was the real deal. He is not only in love with his wife, he LIKES his wife. He ADMIRES her. And that is a rare and gorgeous thing. (Right, Melania?) He’s a mensch. They are happy. And healthy. And accomplished. They are great parents and co-parents with his ex-wife, who was seen holding up a DOUG sign while sitting with their kids in the convention audience. That’s a powerful, mature, telling thing. Her step kids call her “Mamala”. C’mon, you smiled a little, that is freaking adorable! ANd again, very telling as to her character. So bravo, to the future first mensch.
As for the Obama’s? If you didn’t see the glory live, go watch them both. I can wax poetic and come up with a million ways to say THEY BROUGHT THE THUNDER but truly, every American should watch both speeches. They were that good. I teared up watching and thinking how much it totally sucks that Adam isn’t here to have seen this gorgeous moment.
Trump fatigue is real. So, so much negativity and gaslighting and fact checking and drama and absolute stinking, on fire dog shit 24/7 with that animal and his creeps. It’s permeated the emotional ecosystem of this country. Michelle and Barack Obama ( but MICHELLE!!!!! OMG) did not come to play. They came to SLAY. They walked in and cleared the Trump filled air with their poised and calm political sunshine. *Did I mention there was a dick joke? Google it. NOW.
Women in general came out to tell Donald Trump to sit down and be quiet.
Ana Navarro, CNN, commentator, Host of The View and proud dog mom said:
“Let’s be serious. Donald Trump and his minions call Kamala a communist. I know communism. I fled communism from Nicaragua when I was 8 years old. I don’t take it lightly”
She said her dog doesn’t like Trump and we shouldn’t vote for anyone that dogs don’t like. Sounds good to me. I’m with Rover.
Remarkable American hero Illinois Sen. Tammy Duckworth called Trump a “five-time draft-dodging coward” and also had this to say:
“Trump’s anti-woman crusade has put other Americans’ right to have their own families at risk,” she said. “Cause if they win, Republicans will not stop at banning abortion. They will come for IVF next. They’ll prosecute doctors. They’ll shame and spy on women.”
A combat veteran who lost both legs in a heroic and tragic helicopter incident during the Iraq War, Sen. Duckworth was the first disabled woman elected to Congress, who also happens to be the first sitting senator to give birth. Thanks to IVF. If anyone has the right to tell Donald Trump what a loser he is, it’s Senator Duckworth.
Tonight will be another music fest apparently with P!NK and John Legend performing. President Bill Clinton will be speaking, and he is one of the great orators and political minds of our time so definitely anticipating a huge moment from him.
Do you feel it?
We have momentum, and the orange animal is on the run, but that just means we need to dig in even deeper and make sure their autocratic doomsday never comes to be. Engage. Talk to folks. Ask them if they are registered to vote. Donate to the campaign if you are able. Don’t ever forget January 6th. And remember who we are. We are AMERICANS. And that is pretty damn special. Let’s fight like hell to protect that. Michelle Obama, of course, said it best:
“If we start feeling tired, if we start feeling that dread creeping back in, we’ve got to pick ourselves up, throw water on our faces and do something!”
