I was going to share a detailed overview of the convention process and the historical elements that built the foundation that brought us to modern day Chicago for this epic DNC but nah. Maybe another day, or next election cycle, or never. Instead, after seeing the love fest coming from the United Center, I wanted to talk about why this convention is so special.

If you’ve peeked at any news or social today, you may recognize this guy:
That’s 17 year old Gus Walz, son of Tim Walz, aka Coach, who you may have heard is running for Vice President along side Kamala Harris. Last night he officially accepted the nomination, and along with the entire Democratic Party, many (real) Republican Party members, and a zillion other people, Gus Walz was thrilled to see his father on that stage. He literally, through tears, and a lifetime of emotion could not stop himself from standing and pointing at his father to say:
‘That’s my Dad!”
It was beautiful. I am tearing up just writing this, but I am an emotional creature and after losing my partner, dear, cherished friend, champion, and political powerhouse pal, Adam, THE Dirty Moderate, who you may know passed away last week, I am let’s just say emotionally primed right now. But I digress. As soon as Gus came on screen I gasped and then immediately exhaled. Gasp in was for how gorgeous the moment was- to see this young man unabashedly show the love and pride he had for his father. The immediate exhale was for knowing the MAGA hate squad was going to attempt to disembowel this poor human and use his image as a ridicule point for their nauseating cause. And I was right. I mean, of COURSE they did. They are cruel, awful bullies. They are literally the people who would make fun of the disabled kids in the cafeteria in high school. You KNOW the type. You can’t fix something like that. They are broken and awful. Remember this Trump classic?
That’s the former President of the United States ridiculing a disabled reporter at an event. It’s not AI, it’s not “fake news”, the pig actually did it. That’s who he is. He calls his followers “basement dwellers” as revealed by one of the many ex-Trump White House employees who spoke at the DNC this week. I mean, how lousy of a human and a boss do you need to be for your former employees to go over to the competitor and talk shit about you? Bad.
And Tim Walz was everyone’s Coach and it was more Americana, sticky sweet, positive and yes, joyful energy, and it was again, exactly what this country needs right now. No, some Any Given Sunday type speech isn’t going to protect our borders, or help our geopolitical presence, or work out the correct formula to adjust corporate tax. But, it just may help save the fundamental core of what this country is and should always be. A democracy.
Every vote for Harris/Walz is a vote against autocracy. And they are good, hard working, solid, bright, Americans who are most importantly, NOT TRUMP.
Adam was an independent. I am an independent. I mean, see the logo? We are Dirty MODERATES! Adam and I didn’t agree on every single issue, but the foundational bones of being fiscally conservative and against big government while leaning socially left, and supporting Israel kept us sufficiently politically lubricated and fired up together while keeping us OUT of being able to identify as a traditional party box aka politically homeless. And more and more folks are starting to recognize hey, my party is not doing what they once were. Democrats and Republicans. The parties have both been thrown up in the air like confetti and are slowly falling to the ground. Where they will land? Lots of theories, but right now, the way Adam saw it, and the reason we created Dirty Moderate was to give the folks who just weren’t sure a place to go and think about the issues. Hear from both sides and make decisions for themselves based on information, not party messaging. Tonight, we will see politically homeless patriot, Lieutenant Colonel, all around great dude, and friend of the show, Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R) IL speak at the convention. If you are a long time Dirty Moderate, you know that we covered every minute of the January 6th hearings, where Rep. Kinzinger was the co-chair along with Liz Cheney. 2 Republicans who were brave enough to choose country over party because the head of their party enabled and encouraged an INSURRECTION. The fact that Republicans are speaking at the DNC really says it all. This is a new day. And we are SO here for it.
Kamala, on she and Doug’s 10th wedding anniversary (awww) will officially accept tonight and damn, we hope she knocks it out of the park. It’s a LOT of hype to live up to. We are waiting to see who the big surprise performer will be. Some say Beyonce, others Taylor Swift. Some are thinking George Bush… we know P!nk was doing sound check so that’s happening. Whoever or whatever happens tonight, this was a total sweep for the Dems and if it keeps the orange rapist away from the nuke codes, it’s a win.
Please, please, please encourage folks to vote! It only takes 2 minutes and can be done right here www.vote.org
